Hello Dolly!

I made these doll cookies – thinking they would be very cute and look like an American Girl doll (even though I am a very Canadian girl;).

When they were done, I thought they looked like me and my friend S.  When my husband saw the cookies (knowing I made Us in Cookie) he said “Cute, You and S. in Cookie” – this is funny because hubby does not really notice stuff like this.

S. and I have been friends for over 30 years – yes yes we met long before we were born;)

Today is S’s birthday so I thought I would send this out with a big huge “Happy Birthday My Friend My Friend!”

Just SAY IT in Cookie

When anyone says “Just SAY IT!” it is usually followed by something you don’t really want to hear.

In this case though, it is followed in cookie – so it is just want you want to hear – something sweet (even if it says something not so nice;). I have made these Thought Bubble cookies before but I could not resist sharing these because I just loved the way they turned out. I can't help notice the difference in the quality of the cookies -- not sure if it because I'm getting a little better at decorating OR if it is my favorite PME 1.5 tip that makes lettering WAY easier.

These cookies were for my sister-in-law’s 50th 35th birthday.  We really did want to wish her all the best so came up with all kinds of fun birthday greetings like:

  •  Happy Birthday!
  • ·      You Look Marvelous
  • ·      Skip Around The Room
  • ·      WOW!
  • ·      This is What 35 Looks Like
  • ·      HB2U HB2U HB DU HB2U
  • ·      & on & on
I keep thinking of more and more ideas for this CopperGifts.com thought bubble cookie cutter.  I’m thinking they would be great saying Thank You, Love You, Will You Marry Me?, etc.  I would love to make these cookies as placecards for a fun party – “You’re At Table #1” or “Shelly, Sit Here!”.

What would you like to “say in cookie”?

Photo Cookies

Today is my brother’s birthday!  It’s a milestone birthday so I thought I would make him some special cookies.  My brother is a great guy with a million hobbies including hiking, skiing, sailing, canoeing, watching the Toronto Maple Leafs, etc...  He is an amazing dad, attentive husband, wonderful son, not-so-mean-anymore older brother and a really nice friend.  I think he deserves some fun cookies for this most auspicious occasion.

I love the idea of combining pictures and cookies so this gave me the perfect excuse to play around with my new printer with edible ink and frosting sheets.  Lucky that I found this picture of him fishing at the cottage because even today he can often be found at the end of the dock fishing with his kids.

Much to my surprise when researching the mystery transferring digital images to edible frosting paper I quickly learned that it’s a regular printer that uses edible ink and frosting paper.  There is a list of compatible printers but the list is large and many Canon and Epson printers work.

How cute are these cookies?  I guess I can’t really take credit for these cute pictures of my brother doing some of his favorite things – fishing at the cottage, playing hockey or spending time with his family.  But hey, I made the cookies;)

Here is how I made them.

Materials Needed for Decorating:
- scanned picture on frosting paper
- cookies white iced
- clear corn syrup
- pastry brush
- white royal icing
- white crystal sugar

Instructions and Tips:

Bake and white ice sugar cookies – I used a 3” square or 3” round cookie cutter.

Print image and cut out to size.

Brush cookie with clear corn syrup and carefully place image on cookie.

Pipe a boarder and dip in crystal sugar.  I did each cookie boarder a little different because I liked a simple boarder on the hockey cookie, sugar on the fishing one and scallops or flowers on the family picture.

I love the way these cookies worked out but not as much as I love my brother.  Happy Birthday Gary!

Happy Fabulous Fifty Birthday!

Today is my fabulous huband's 50th Birthday so I made these cookies for him.
What's great about this cookie cutter that I got at Copper Gifts is that it is super easy to decorate and can be used for a 50th wedding anniversary too.  Here are some other 50's I've made.
The numbers are a great personalized "loot bag" gift or table place card or centre piece.

However you use them, its nice to mark special occasions with a big bash or small intimate affair -- whatever is works.  But do celebrate because in this crazy world, its important to celebrate all the really great things that happen, and turning 50 is one of them.

Happy Happy to my Fabulous Husband.  I hope all your wishes come true.
