Canada's Most Amazing Cookie on Frosting for the Cause

On Friday May 20, 2011, I am, once again, guest blogging on Frosting for the Cause.  My blog entry is dedicated to  my husband's sweet dog "Cookie" and includes a tutorial on how to make these Golden Retriever cookies.  Please take some time to read the relevance of Cookie's story on a site dedicated to Breast Cancer awareness and how this beautiful girl won the title of "Canada's Most Amazing Dog". Remember to comment (hint, hint, nudge, nudge, wink, wink) on the site.  This is an amazing site that is raising money for various Breast Cancer charities -- a true labour of love of which I feel very lucky to be part of.  Good luck to all the friends I sponsored doing the Toronto Walk to End Breast Cancer in order to participate in http://www.frostingforthecause.com/

Flowers for Mom's Day

Mother's Day is traditionally celebrated with breakfast in bed and flowers -- so I combined the two with cookie flowers your Dear Mom can eat off her breakfast tray.  That being said, my Mom is up and out WAY before me so it is almost impossible for me to bring her breakfast in bed (I think she does this because she has flashbacks to having to clean up the mess when we were kids;).  Nevertheless, I made her these cookies, and here is how I made them.

Using your favorite sugar or rolled cookie recipe, roll out and bake according the the recipe.

Materials Needed for Decorating:

  • royal icing -- I cannot stress enough how much I love the royal icing when made with Ateco meringue powder
  • piping bag
  • piping bottle for flooding the cookies and the dots
  • gel colours of your choice -- I used white, pink, yellow and purple
Using a tip #3, outline the cookies and let them set up before flooding.

Using a piping bottle, flood with white icing and then use your a colour and dot it in the middle.

I really like the way they turned out so I decided to make more flowers and polka dotted cookies (I do love polka dots).

I say I love you everyday to my Mom.  Today I'm going to say I love you and give her some pretty cookies.

Happy Fabulous Fifty Birthday!

Today is my fabulous huband's 50th Birthday so I made these cookies for him.
What's great about this cookie cutter that I got at Copper Gifts is that it is super easy to decorate and can be used for a 50th wedding anniversary too.  Here are some other 50's I've made.
The numbers are a great personalized "loot bag" gift or table place card or centre piece.

However you use them, its nice to mark special occasions with a big bash or small intimate affair -- whatever is works.  But do celebrate because in this crazy world, its important to celebrate all the really great things that happen, and turning 50 is one of them.

Happy Happy to my Fabulous Husband.  I hope all your wishes come true.

Feel Way Better!

I made these Get Well Soon cookies recently.  They were pretty easy to make as I just used white icing (and a little black for the writing) and jumbo multi-colour sprinkles for the "pills".

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, "life really is better with sprinkles" -- especially when you are under the weather.

I hope these cookies make the person they were sent to feel WAY better soon!
